Pilates came into my life when I was experiencing various pains and niggles from running. I love running, and I hope to continue doing it well into my older age because it’s my mental health vitamin!
However, my desk job created a perfect storm of poor posture, rounded shoulders, weak glutes, tight hips, a weak core, and much more—all of which didn’t serve me well when transitioning from sitting most of the day to hitting the ground hard with running. Despite collecting my 10k and half marathon medals, my body was not happy.
It didn’t take much for me to get hooked on Pilates. For the first time in my exercise journey, I found something that helped me quiet my mind, be present, and listen to what my body was telling me through various postures and movements.
The benefits of Pilates, to name just a few:
And the list can go on and on…
Pilates is a well-established system of exercise that can strengthen muscles, improve posture, flexibility and mobility and enhance body movement efficiency.
My Pilates classes are structured around the principles of Pilates—Centering, Precision, Concentration, Breath, Control, and Flow. I offer appropriate progressions and regressions to ensure that all participants work at the right level for their bodies on any given day.
I don’t promote any particular style of Pilates over another; I am an intuitive teacher who sees Pilates as a vast base of movement tools to use and interpret to match my clients’ needs. And we have fun in the process!
